Who Will Win the Super Bowl, 2025 Edition

This article was edited and reposted due to inaccurate chart data in my first posting. Football fans, beware! For better or for worse, my forecast of the outcome has changed.

I wanted to sit this one out. Not because I’m a disillusioned football fan forced to watch the same teams make the playoffs year after year, but because in 2024 I challenged myself to predict the outcome of the US Presidential election and it was a huge undertaking. Some of my predictions landed, while others did not. As an astrologer, I don’t feel I need to predict everything. Many of us turn to prediction to help us make important decisions navigating the currents of life. Many of us find astrology useful to help us make sense of the waters we are swimming in. And yet, the need to know the outcome of everything can zap the magic of aliveness. Life is also meant to be experienced without judgement at times. We are also here to have fun - which is actually why predicting the outcome of the Super Bowl is attractive to me.

If you’re new here, I will begin by saying that I am not the biggest sports fan. I do enjoy a good baseball game or basketball game, but football is one that I’ve never had the patience to follow. But like many fair-weather fans, sure, I’ll watch if it’s on. In full disclosure, I have not watched a single game of football since the last Super Bowl.

So why are we here? Mostly because I’m giddy about using a technique I don’t get to use very often. Ancient astrologers used to set up charts to answer “Who Will Win?” Mostly, these charts were used to determine outcomes of battles, which could shape empires and continents. For our purposes here today? It’s not that serious. We’re just here to play ball.

Please take my prediction with a grain of salt. As I said, I am not a sports fan, so I’m lacking primary knowledge which might help inform my prediction - and yet, my lack of attachment to the outcome gives me zero bias, which could be an advantage here. Shout out to my friend Cameron for lending me a little insight into the match!

The Game Chart

Since the Kansas City Chiefs won last year, I will take them as the “home team.” They are then represented by the first house in this chart, which features Leo rising, ruled by the Sun. The Sun is in detriment in Aquarius, an indication that there is something highly unique which sets this team apart. Planets in detriment are sometimes at a disadvantage due to being underestimated, yet a unique skillset sets them apart from the rest. The Chiefs stand to be the first team to win 3 Super Bowls in a row - yet many people don’t want to see them win. Could this explain a potential win? Potentially. The Sun holds Mercury at it’s core in a unique alignment called a cazimi. Mercury in the heart of the Sun in Aquarius lends superior intelligence and brilliance - the ability to strategize and problem solve. Yet, the advantage is often invisible to others who may not see it coming yet.

The Sun (the Chiefs) is also very angular in this chart, which demonstrates their strength and capabilities - as well as their potential to win. The Sun forms a square with Uranus showing that unexpected adversities may impact their strategies tonight. Perhaps the game will go into overtime, or something wild and unexpected which leaves fans biting their nails. Uranus could also explain a third victory.

The Philadelphia Eagles are represented by the 7th house. With Aquarius on the cusp, they are represented by Saturn, a planet which moves slow and strategically. It appears the Eagles would be at a definite disadvantage in this chart due to Saturn being in the 8th house (a dark house, which deals with endings). The 8th house is also understood as a house of death. In a game chart like this, death would mean defeat. Furthermore, Saturn holds no essential dignity here. Saturn is helped slightly by its ruler Jupiter and a separating aspect from the Moon.

The Moon is in aversion to the Sun (the Chiefs) and barely separates from Saturn (the Eagles), showing that fans tend to favor the Eagles this year. However, with the Moon in the 12th house, it shows that fans aren’t particularly enthused with either team.

The 10th house represents the referees. Many people have claimed that the game is already rigged to favor the Chiefs, citing many situations where the refs made questionable calls in the Chiefs’ favor. This suspicion is softly, not overtly confirmed in this chart. Ruled by Taurus and Venus, neither team’s significator thrives more than the other in this sign. However, Venus makes a whole sign sextile to the Sun, indicating that the refs may make more calls in favor of the Chiefs tonight. Yet, this is not a strong aspect, so I wouldn’t be too worried about unfair calls.

Overall, the testimony here seems to absolutely favor the Chiefs.

New Moon Charts

New Moon in Kansas City, MO

New Moon in Philadelphia, PA

Next, I’ll consider the New Moon charts for each team’s home city to see which one looks more celebratory. This is pretty straightforward. Philadelphia’s New Moon chart features a celebratory Jupiter on the angle of the chart, while Kansas City’s features a frustrated Mars retrograde on the angle. This technique seems to favor Philadelphia.

Full Moon Charts

Full Moon chart, Philadelphia, PA

Since the game occurs just before a full moon, I thought it might be important to look at these charts as well. These charts support what the New Moon charts also said. The Kansas City chart features Saturn on the Ascendant, while the Philadelphia chart places Venus on the ascendant. Venus is the more favorable planet, arguing that Philadelphia would have more reason to celebrate. The luminaries are more vital in Philadelphia’s chart, to boot.

Quarterbacks’ Natal Charts

Timed birth charts are essential if we aim to consider the full scope of predictive techniques. Without timed charts, we are severely limited in our ability to predict with accuracy.  Unfortunately, we do not have timed charts for our quarterbacks and thus, we cannot make a confident prediction. However, I can lightly consider the sunrise chart for each QB.

Patrick Mahomes: The Chiefs’ QB’s Sun is at 24 degrees Virgo – the place of two eclipses, one on 9/17/24 and the other on 3/14/25. This was one indicator for me last year that the Chiefs would win. Sure, eclipses can elevate a person to prominence. This time, it’s more of a wildcard due to the south node transiting his Sun, which is not always the most vital of transits. The Sun is a primary indicator of fame, and here, the south node diminishes. On top of it all, Saturn also opposes his Sun, which can dim a person’s light. I suspect his Moon is in late Gemini. If this is true, Jupiter in Gemini indicates fortune and opportunity, though a square from Saturn kinks the flow. Unimpeded, Jupiter opposes his natal Jupiter, which is a celebratory transit. Overall, victory is possible, but it’s very possible that the south node and Saturn will compromise.

(Since the primary QB’s show such mixed testimony, I wanted to consider the alternates.)

Carson Wentz: The Chiefs alternate QB’s Mars is retrograde in Cancer, just like Mars currently. This is highly significant and could be advantageous for him tonight. Without a birth time, I do not know what degree his Pisces Moon is at and whether or not it’s being helped or hindered by the planets. Jupiter trines his natal Jupiter, which is nice, but it’s ultimately squared by Mars retrograde, which could indicate adversities and frustration on the path to victory. Overall, Wentz’ looks more favorable for victory, but the big question is how much play time he will get and does that matter?

Jalen Hurts: The Eagles’ QB has Mars in Cancer, though his is not retrograde, so it is not as closely tied to the current cycle. Saturn transits his natal Jupiter, which could be an indication of defeat – and yet, the north node of increase is also upon his Jupiter, along with spiritualizing Neptune. He may feel that a higher power is alongside him at this time. Pluto conjoins his natal Neptune, which either dramatizes the reach toward a person’s dream, or it can sometimes indicate the loss of a core dream. Jupiter sextiles his Sun, a decent transit to celebrate something or elevate a person. Overall, the testimony is very mixed.

Kenny Picket: The Eagles’ alternate QB also has the north node of increase transiting his celebratory Jupiter and Pluto conjoining his Neptune. Just like Hurts, Saturn also transits his Jupiter. Transiting Jupiter conjoins his Gemini planets, which is extremely fortunate. He has similar mixed testimony to many of our players with prominent Pisces placements, however, with all of his middle degree Gemini planets, this transit is the most overtly favorable I’ve seen of the four players considered. Again, the question is, how much play time would he have and does that matter?

Overall, each of the QB’s are experiencing major Saturn transits which indicates discipline and focus – but it can also show hindrance and disappointment. Each one is also experiencing a lovely Jupiter transit, which is wonderful for opportunity and good fortune, but Picket’s transit appears the most favorable and unhindered amongst our untimed charts.

The Moon aligns with two of the players’ Mars: Eagles QB, Jalen Hurts and Chief’s alternate QB, Cason Wentz. This is advantageous for both players.

Conclusion

Overall, it’s a very difficult call, but considering everything I am able to observe here, I would wager the Chiefs another victory, becoming the first team to win 3 years in a row. While the lunation charts seemed to favor Philadelphia, the game chart deserves more weight. The game chart overtly favors the Chiefs. I think the Eagles have a lot going for them, but it will likely be a decisive victory, with their significator in the 8th house. All of that said, without birth times for the athletes, we’re very limited in our forecasting abilities. Maybe you, reader, could make a more confident judgement on this with your own football expertise. I’m just here to try this “who will win” technique for fun, since I don’t get to use it very much. I guess we shall see!

Outcome:

Updated 2/10/25:

The Eagles indefinitely swept the Chiefs. The Chiefs made several errors, resulting in the Eagles maintaining control of the ball for the majority of the game. The Chiefs managed to get on the board in the second half, catching up in the 4th quarter, though the Eagles continued to score. It was not a close game at all, as I suspected from this chart.

  1. The lunation charts prevailed! The lunation charts accurately revealed which city would be more celebratory.

  2. When the Chiefs won the coin toss and the Eagles took control of the ball first, I wondered if the Eagles should then be assigned to the first house as the “home team.” This, I believe, proved to be the case. Watching the game play out, it was the Chiefs who seemed to resonate more with Saturn in the 8th house— unable to play with their typical vitality, and plays continuously thwarted. It was the Eagles, who should have been represented by the Sun in detriment, the clear underdogs of the match. Further, the Sun is received by Saturn. This essentially describes that the Chiefs handed the game to the Eagles. Again, with Saturn in the 8th receiving the Sun, this was not a close game at all. Typically, we would set up the chart with the home team signified by the first house and the visitors as the 7th; however, with a game like this, those rules become blurred. In horary astrology, where there are multiple significators available, it’s common to choose the one which best describes the subject in question. This will be a good practice to keep in mind for future Super Bowl charts.

  3. Speaking of horary, astrology’s divinational branch. It’s always good to remember that astrology is divinational and works in mysterious ways. Many astrologers have had the experience of consulting with a client using the wrong birth data, but the client still gets a lot out of their reading. Geoffrey Cornelius makes the point in his book, “The Moment of Astrology,” that perhaps there is a divine reason for this occurrence, much like an astrologer casting a horary chart to answer a client’s question. Perhaps this was the case for me when I initially forecasted the Eagles win using the incorrect chart? Perhaps, but probably not. Master astrologer Robert Hand is frequently quoted to say (paraphrasing) “I’ve never seen the wrong chart work better than an accurate one.” I really think this was a case of an indistinguishable home team.

  4. Saturn and the south node proved to exert its influence upon the Chiefs QB, Patrick Mahomes’s Sun, who did not play as well tonight. These transits certainly lent a dimming effect, which I described above.

  5. Jalen Hurts’ Jupiter and Neptune transits delivered! As well as his Mars return. Two of the four QB’s had Mars in Cancer, but Hurts had the most play time. This was a favorable return for him.

  6. Kenny Pickett of the Eagles appeared to have the most Jupiter transits unimpeded by Saturn, which made me lean toward an Eagles victory when I first considered the natal charts. This proved to be the case.

  7. I learned a lot from this experiment. Congratulations to Eagles fans! Let’s do it again next year!

Big Blessings,

Catherine
