Astrology Report for December 2015, Part I: One People, One Planet
(***All times are read for Eastern Standard Time; for Pacific Standard Time, subtract 3 hours***)
Uranus and Pluto have been in a stressful square since 2011. Pluto, the planet of the underworld has been transiting Capricorn since 2008 when the US market crashed and initiated the recession. Uranus entered Aries in 2011, with the widespread use of smart phones revolutionizing daily life. These two transformational planets are in a stressful square. The self-absorbed culture where anyone can become a media celebrity, rivals the crumbling infrastructure of capitalism and the people’s decaying trust in the government’s ability to protect. It truly is a fascinating time to be alive.
In fact, the times we are in now will be remembered to be just as pivotal as we remember the 1960’s. For it was in 1967 that Uranus and Pluto conjoined, beginning a new cycle of cultural transformation. Fast forward, we are now in the phase in which the same themes are being rehashed just as loudly: civil rights/racism, marijuana, and surveillance (Watergate 1972); policing the world, grassroots spirituality and consciousness, as well as the exploration of space. It’s not that these issues ever went away, it’s just that they are now on the front page of the paper again.
Uranus and Pluto are finished making exact squares, but their influence is nowhere near complete; especially when transiting planets activate them.
Mars will be activating the Uranus/Pluto square for the next two weeks. We will be asking Mars related questions surrounding the evolution of our society, namely, how we are going to deal with violence in our society. Whether you consider your community to be your neighborhood, your country or the whole planet, we cannot deny the madness.
“To change the world, we have to change ourselves.”
We are our own authorities. We can create ripples of kindness in the world. Why do people commit atrocious acts? One might speculate that the person never received enough compassion from others, from their government or from the world; that they felt hopeless, and that too much darkness suffocated their light. We must remember to be the lighthouse for others in these chaotic times. For most of us individuals, that might be the extent of what we are able to do.
Collectively, however, bigger issues are on the table. Gun control is a hot topic in congress. It’s too often that a hostile gunman shoots up a school, movie theater or Planned Parenthood. These are symptoms of an ailment. Our society is sick and needs a remedy. Hopefully we may see some healing progress over the next couple of weeks, particularly with the seeding of the New Moon.
Tuesday December 1st, we have a grand trine in fire, sparking intuition, initiative and action. If we are tuned in, we can potentially receive some really great ideas. Get inspired by breaking the routine today. Take a different route home or do something different this evening. Break your own rules if you have to! It’s a day for play. The Moon goes void in Aries at 10:09 pm EST, inviting you to relax and go with the flow.
The Moon enters Virgo at 5:09 am on Wednesday. We will be back on track today, minding the details of a potentially industrious day. The Moon touches the Sun, Saturn and Neptune today, inviting us to work out some of the details in the pursuit of our big dream (we’ll have ample opportunity to work with this energy for the next couple of months). What mini-adjustments can we make in our routines that will invite the grounded manifestation of this goal? We may get some clarity and/or take action towards this aspiration today.
On Thursday, December 3rd, we are aware of that which holds us back. Most likely, it’s our own self-sabotaging in the way. We are our own worst critics, and sometimes we nitpick ourselves to defeat. Today, we are conscious of the glass wall between here and our goal. There is a desire to expand out of the confines of our own imagined prison. Today is ripe for breakthroughs and clarity. Vesta enters Aries today; we are ready to bravely take action from the core of our truth. We can only be honest at this time; feigned interests will wither.
The Moon is void of course for most of the day on Friday. Mercury in Sagittarius squares Jupiter in Virgo, inviting grandiose claims and ample exaggeration. Today is not a good day to buy a new car, for example, as its assets may be overpromised and under-delivered. Be wary of information today, as the truth will be a slightly deflated version of that which falls on your ears. We can also be careful that we don’t stretch the truth ourselves. This can also be a blabbermouth aspect, or someone who has zero filter.
Venus enters “all or nothing” Scorpio today, where she will remain until the 30th. During this time, we will be exploring which of our commitments are worth our time and energy, and which activities aren’t worth our energetic investment. By the end of the month, we may decide to release that which we aren’t wholeheartedly passionate about, simultaneously committing harder to that which brings us more joy, empowerment, or even to that which is more lucrative.
On Saturday December 5th, the Moon joins up with Mars in Libra. Mars is the action principle; Libra is relationship, harmony and beauty. We want to go out with our friends! This is activity oriented. Think movement, action, sports, exploring, cooking, artistry, creating.
Conversely, Libra also rules open enemies. So if Mars is behaving badly, there could possibly be confrontations or disputes today. In this sign, it’s possible to handle conflict cordially, but it’s not always possible.
On Sunday December 6th, we might get antsy if we don’t get moving. There is a buzz-ton of energy in the air and it’s not necessarily comfortable. If you thought this would be a lazy Sunday, you were wrong! Get physical, get to the gym or reorganize the basement. Mars forms an exact square to Pluto today. Think back to March of 2015: what were you working on? What were you processing psychologically? This month is another turning point in that story. When you clean out your physical closet, you are also purging your emotional closet. It’s a metaphorical duality that is redundant in our human experience. This is a period of releasing, renewal and redirecting of our energy. Break up the blocks and build yourself up. Evolve higher.
The Moon enters Scorpio at 6:26 am on Monday December 7th, and conjoins with Venus. We connect with the powerful women in our lives, or connect deeply within to our yin nature, the resourceful mama energy. Even if you are a man, you still have a receptive, nurturing, emotional yin side! When the Moon is in Scorpio, conversations tend to get a little deeper, and we reveal details that we wouldn’t ordinarily share.
On December 8th, we are inspired to try something new. We are feeling inventive, ingenious, inspired or be struck with a realization of sorts. It’s an unpredictable sort of day with a wild streak. Anything goes!
On Wednesday December 9th, the Moon goes void at 1:39 am with a sextile to Jupiter, remaining void most of the day, until entering Sag at 5:25 pm. There is a lot of potential for healing through prolonged self-reflection. The Sun is square to Chiron today, so we are still working on healing our troubles. We’ve been working with Chiron deeply since November. Last month, we became deeply aware of that wound which holds us back. On November 28th, Chiron stationed direct, signaling a readiness for us to move forward towards healings. Maybe we decided we needed therapy, received acupuncture or reached out to someone for help. Today is a turning of a new leaf in our healing journey. Be brave, look at it, and release it!
Mercury enters Capricorn today, and he sure is happy to leave Sagittarius. He gets along much better in Capricorn, where the mind behaves more patiently. We can be more ambitious, precise, practical and methodical while Mercury is in Capricorn.
Practicality persists again on December 10th when the Moon conjoins Saturn in Sag. We are concerned with concrete reality today. However, there is a bit of a dichotomy because there is also a desire to blow up the concrete. Simultaneously, there is an impulse to disregard everything you’ve been working towards, blow it off, run away and start over─ as if you were rebelling against everyone you love, the world, and yourself. Madness is in the air and people feel torn. Craziness and rebelliousness will most likely make headlines today.
On Friday December 11th, we have a NEW MOON at 19⁰02’ Sagittarius, exact at 5:29 am EST. We are beginning a new cycle surrounding our beliefs─ personally and collectively. Sagittarius rules the higher mind, universities philosophy, religion and the ancient mystery schools; foreigners, foreign land and the law are also under Sagittarian domain.
Collectively, the United States is at odds as to where it stands in foreign relations. What is our responsibility? How much is too much involvement? Immigration and the refugee crisis will continue to be a hotly debated topic worldwide. Many uninformed people grasp skewed perceptions of religion versus religious extremism. Not every Muslim is a terrorist and not every Christian shoots up a Planned Parenthood! This New Moon cycle will bring these issues under the microscope.
Where the New Moon occurs in our charts is where we will planting new Sagittarian seeds in our personal lives. Maybe we are inspired to understand something better that is “foreign” to us. Maybe it is university related, or we decide to enroll in a yoga teacher training program. The principle is “expansion,” and it really could be as simple as reading a book!
The Sabian Symbol for 20⁰ Sagittarius is “men cutting through ice, to save for the summer season.” We must break the ice, the glass walls that separate us, to ensure for a brighter future for the global humanity. The warmth of our compassionate hearts can melt the frigid ice of fear, solitude and ignorance.
Astrologer Blaine Bovee suggests that we think of ice skating or sleighs here, where blades on ice can be used swiftly and productively. Further, he says that “the 20th degree tends to be characterizes by ease, genius, creative flow… things happen in surprising ways... outside the realm of practical expectation."
Tensions are high on a global scale, especially when it comes to cultural norms. Based on Blaine’s deep intuitive understanding of these symbols, I would deduce that changes are going to unfold swiftly and surprisingly on a global scale, so let’s keep that fire of love burning! It’s still not widely accepted that we are all ONE, but one day it will. Hopefully soon. It’s the only way that we can all truly live in harmony on this planet─ every human, every plant and every animal. “You can’t have a world view if you don’t explore the world.” –Vanesa Salas
The Moon enters Capricorn at 1:46 am on
Saturday, December 12th
and conjoins with Mercury. It may be a fast paced morning with lots to do. Harmonious aspects are made with Venus and Neptune, allotting energy for grounded creativity, pleasant interactions with others, appreciation for love and beauty, and indulging in the arts and/or spiritual arts.
Sunday may not feel as pleasant as yesterday, but we have the power to use the energy wisely and channel it into something positive. The Moon conjoins Pluto, inherently transformational. Pluto rules compost. I like the metaphor of turning shit into gold. There’s always a silver lining; there is always a way to look at something in a positive light and to be grateful that the universe deemed you worthy of a challenge. That said, there is also a natural grieving process with trauma and loss; it takes time to see the light and eventually find gratitude, even forgiveness.
The Moon goes void at 6:07 pm. Let it go.
Monday December 14th, the Moon enters Aquarius at 7:59 am. It’s a nice day to socialize or to participate in group activities. The Sun squares Jupiter, so there is an element of overdoing. If you are going shopping today, be careful not to spend too much! Feminism and strong women will likely make headlines today, due to the Sun’s trine with Eris. Hillary may try to get a leg up in her campaign.
The Moon is a busy lady on Tuesday December 15th, and therefore, so are we! Many people are realizing that there are only ten days left to prepare for the holiday season! The Moon is talking to Mars and is still in speedy Aquarius, so there is a lot of potential to get things finished today. With a square to Venus, she feels like spending money. Again, like yesterday, there may be a tendency to overdo.
The Moon also conjoins Ceres today, Goddess of agriculture and nurturing. Scrooges may feel a nudge to do something kind for their loved ones (despite their scorn of consumerism), such as planning a dish to bring to mom’s house. Alternatively, when Ceres is in scientific Aquarius, this can also mean GMO’s (November 1st-January 30 2016). Last month, while we were consumed with worry for Paris, the FDA authorized the commercial sale of genetically engineered salmon. Labels are optional. This has of course angered thousands of people. We may hear more of this unfolding story this week.
On Wednesday December 16th, we have an early morning void Moon from 2:17 am-12:45 am, when the Moon enters Pisces. It’s kind of a quiet day in the heavens, so it’s a good time for us to do the same. “As above, so below….”
Aho Mitakyue Oyasin. May Mother Earth and all her inhabitants be awakened to our unity, and the highest LOVE of the Universe.
Love and healing to ALL....
