Who will win the Super Bowl in 2024?

When Lisa Stardust invited me to contribute to her article for Today, I jumped at the chance to utilize astrology’s sports prediction playbook.

While serious astrologers might initially scoff at harnessing celestial potency to predict something as trivial as a sports game, it’s important to remember that the techniques astrologers employ here are some of the same techniques ancient and medieval astrologers would have used to predict who would win a battle. Indeed, astrologers have advised rulers in battle strategy for millennia, influencing the shape of the world today.

As Lisa’s Today article was a collaborative effort, not all of my research was published, so I thought I’d go ahead and share it here. It feels risky to make a bold prediction about football - an area of which I have zero expertise. However, I am a seasoned astrologer who has been doing this long enough to know that astrology works!

I predict that the Kansas City Chiefs will win.

Here’s my process:

  1. Before casting any charts, I consulted my friend Cameron who knows a lot about football, to gather foundational details about the teams and public perception of who folks are rooting for. He explained that people are bored of both teams, but especially the Chiefs who won last year, but that people will generally be rooting for the San Francisco 49ers. He also lent me some insight into the quarterbacks, who will be important in our process later. (thanks Cam!)

  2. Astrologers cast a chart for the first kickoff; this chart will tell us about the game and who the stronger team will be. Typically, we need a home team and an away team for these kinds of charts, but since the Chiefs have been to the Super Bowl three times in the past 5 years and won last year, while the 49ers have only been to the Super Bowl once (and lost to the Chiefs), we can take the Chiefs as the home team.

At a first glance, this chart is a bit of a misnomer. We use the ascendant and its ruler to judge the Chiefs. They are ruled by Mercury in Aquarius in a darkened house. The 6th house is a house of ailment and injury, but it's also a house often associated with athletes. It’s not a very strong placement. The 49ers are represented by Jupiter, also in a cadent house. However, this is a stronger house than the 6th house, where the Chiefs’ significator lands. At first, it looks like the 49ers have a stronger lead. However, Saturn, a planet of delays, setbacks and slowness conjoins the descendant, which seems to dampen the 49ers’ fire. As Saturn rules the 5th house (which I’m taking for the referees), it looks like the refs may come down harder on them.

We see the Moon in the 7th house, indicating that the 49ers will be the fan favorite. However, if we want to look at the end result, we look at the 10th house, which is also ruled by Mercury, lending favor to the Chiefs.

  3. New Moon Charts: Astrologers can also use the New Moon chart from 2/9 to forecast the upcoming two weeks. We cast a chart for the new moon in both cities and judge which one looks more celebratory. As both cities have so much to be excited about on 2/9, we could expect to find something delightful in both charts. Indeed, both charts have an angular benefic planet - but Kansas City’s is stronger with Jupiter (the greater benefic) on the midheaven, the most visible angle. San Francisco’s new moon chart features Venus (the lesser benefic) on the descendant. Furthermore, the lifegiving luminaries for KC’s chart are angular, while SF’s are in the extinguished 8th house. All in all, it again looks as though Kansas City will have more to celebrate.

  4. Natal Charts and Transits of the Quarterbacks: Finally, astrologers can compare the transits of the day to the natal charts of the star athletes. Without birth times for either quarterback, it’s impossible to predict with absolute clarity. Nevertheless, the transits seem to favor Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahome. An incoming eclipse over his natal Mercury (which rules his Sun) foreshadows greater excitement for him in the coming year. The Super Bowl chart’s Moon and Venus both shine their blessed light on Mahome’s natal Sun - the planet which represents visibility, success and recognition. We also see a supportive and controlled trine from Saturn to his natal Mars, which can be a strategic portender for his playbook. The angles of the Superbowl chart additionally align with his natal Jupiter, which is a planet of luck and abundance. Even without a birth time, Mahome is experiencing some beautiful transits on this day.

As for 49ers’ quarterback, Brock Purdy, Jupiter separates in a trine from his Capricorn Sun, an aspect which brings blessings, opportunities and fortune. However, this aspect is fading. The Sun illuminates his Mars, which could be great for athleticism, but could concurrently serve as the mark of frustration. He is going to give it everything he’s got. Jupiter conjoins his natal Saturn, the ruler of his Sun, which urges more discipline, but can also bring hard-earned blessings. These transits indeed reflect that he is having his moment and that he has trained really hard for this, however, these transits do not paint a portrait of celebration and honors the way Mahome’s do.

It’s also worth mentioning that Kansas City’s Travis Kelce is already spot lit this year. We do not have a birth time for Kelce, but his chart also foretells tremendous excitement continuing for him in the coming year (especially when it comes to love).

Without timed birth charts for our quarterbacks, it’s difficult to predict with absolute clarity, but based on all of these techniques, I predict that the Kansas City Chiefs will be victorious once again.

  5. Some final considerations: will Saturn on the angle mean that the game moves slowly? Mars is at 29° Capricorn. Over the past few years, Mars at this degree has brought some wild developments (the storming of the Capitol -29° Aries-, the first Hamas attack -29° Libra- and seizing of hostages, the first temporary cease fire -29°Scorpio-). Mars moves into a conjunction with Pluto, which is a combination of excessive blowups, volatile eruptions and disputes. However, this aspect is presently out of sign - will we still see it on the field? Jupiter trines the ascendant; will it be a close game or will the 49ers hand victory to the Chiefs? I guess we will have to wait and see!

Big Blessings,

Catherine
