The Cancer New Moon: Week of July 4th - July 10th
Hello everyone and blessed summer!
I’ve been thinking a lot about the concept of soul retrieval. Indeed, my 12th house has been very active lately, and I think a lot of the facilitation of such experiences is not just because the eclipses have been occurring in my 12th house of the subconscious, but I think also motherhood. I’ve been having this experience since my daughter was born in which I will witness her discovering something new and yet something timeless such as standing on her own; it then triggers a visceral knowing within me, wherein I feel like I can access my own memories of struggling to stand for the first time and how it felt when my parents let go... Perhaps its cellular memory. Perhaps it’s just love. Of course, most of us are unable to access the full scope of memories from infancy or even childhood, but I swear that something from my core knowing remembers too what it was like to play peek-a-boo with my own mother.
I’m being the observer of my past lives within this incarnation. Witnessing various ghosts of myself who still vie for life. How will I remember these selves and honor them? I’m inspired by my colleague, Sabrina Monarch, who is a gifted astrologer and storyteller. Her work has been inspiring me to not only share more of my personal stories, but to also reframe some of them in a more loving and victorious way. We are in Cancer season, after all. Cancer season is the season of nostalgia and nourishing ourselves from the sacred waters of life. To claim satisfaction in life and comfort in one’s own skin despite tribulation is not only healing, but it’s about feeling supported by the universe. To feel at home. I’m now realizing, that even when I felt abandoned by spirit, I most certainly was not! Yes, it’s a huge 12th house revelation!

New Moon in Cancer (7/9)
Sun sextile Uranus (7/5)
As Mars moves further from an opposition to Saturn, an aspect which may have coincided with exhaustion or a lack of motivation, this is exactly the kind of transit we need to wake ourselves up again. The vital, luminous sun enters into a phase of support from Uranus, the Awakener, offering illumination and creative spontaneity. With the Sun in Cancer, this aspect could spark new awareness on how to nourish ourselves on a soul level – or how to live more symbiotically with the universe, with the planet and with others. Maybe it’s about caring more. Or maybe the rebellion of Uranus instead insists that we care less about something.
Mercury square Neptune (7/6)
It’s not just the long weekend, the lack of sleep or the hangover. Nope. Mercury square Neptune is akin to an enveloping cloud. If you’re feeling hazy, tired, checked-out, or maybe you’re having trouble focusing – you’re definitely not alone. Luckily, this aspect is short-lived compared to when Mercury stationed retrograde in this very same square with Neptune at the end of May. Today, we may feel thwarted by this unforgiving fog, or, we could give into it. Is there a way for you to merge your quirky, imaginative creations with the demands of everyday life?
We may also be more inclined to share personal experiences which transcend rational or linear understanding. Will others understand? Not necessarily. Mercury in Gemini is still about honoring various perspectives and the multiplicity of truth. There is no absolute truth, nor should agreement validation from others define personal legitimacy. Mercury square Neptune represents candid sharing, a pure desire for intellectual connection. We may favor our tendency toward wistfulness – even if it’s simply the desire to remain on vacation a little longer.
Venus activates the Saturn-Uranus square (7/6 – 7/9)
Following in Mars’ footsteps, Venus now ignites the Saturn-Uranus square. While we may see a repetition of themes, the function of Venus is quite opposite from that of Mars. While Mars pokes and provokes, Venus massages and entices. I feel that the ongoing story of buildings spontaneously collapsing fits the Mars-Saturn-Uranus story. Venus may gently offer aid or some sort of unifying resolve to the story.
We could also see some exciting stories developing on the financial. We know that Uranus in Taurus is responsible for the major Bitcoin boom of 2018 and continues to emphasize this futuristic, erratic currency. Saturn in Aquarius could represent attempts to regulate or tax cryptocurrency. Saturn is the strongest out of each of these three and therefore will attempt to wrangle, control or set limits. Is your relationship with money evolving too? Uranus in Taurus compels us to open our mind to new paradigms of consciousness around prosperity with respect to the current order (Saturn). We must make room for new forms of dialogue within our own mind around what’s possible for ourselves.
Another big theme? RELATIONSHIPS. If you or your partner have a lot of fixed signs present in your chart, this transit might feel a lil personal. Venus in Leo deeply values feeling seen, appreciated and desired. If you aren’t getting the sort of validation or acknowledgement you crave from your partner, it’s time to make your needs known. It might be time for us to step up our compliment game too. It’s easy and completely natural to become comfortable with the person you love. Saturn occupies Aquarius, a sign which feels strongly, but doesn’t often explicitly reveal the depths of their heart. Uranus invites us to break through stagnation, create new patterns of support. Venus in Leo reminds us that we all deserve to be celebrated, to feel sexy, and to be fully expressed within our relationships.
New Moon, 7/9/21, 18°01’ Cancer, 9:16 pm ET
The Cancer New Moon represents a highlighted emphasis on how we care for ourselves and others. The nostalgic crab is deeply aware of the impact that the past has over the present moment, and thus, reminds us the importance of cultivating memories in the now. In a wide square to Chiron, perhaps its our storytelling style which can shift, gradually making alterations to our stories as the years progress. Chiron represents the healing process. It’s gradual. Our relationship with our past is constantly evolving as we grow and mature. I’m deeply inspired by my colleague Sabrina Monarch, a gifted astrologer and storyteller, who possesses a true talent for recounting personal experiences, vivid with emotional elements and rich, elevating perspectives. If you haven’t listened to her podcast, The Magic of the Spheres, you are definitely missing out!
The new moon widely opposes Pluto, lord of the underworld, taking us inward and backward into our past. We are granted access to how we store these memories in our bodies, minds and subconscious. As new moons are typically periods of lower energy, rest and contemplation, we can surmise that this will be a deeply emotional and reflective new moon. Rest. The sign of Cancer is watery, introspective and deeply concerned with its energy reserves. There must be enough energy to tend to the rituals which sustain us. We must have enough, so that we have enough to show up for others.
The new moon also trines Neptune. To best care for ourselves, perhaps its time for some of our restorative rituals and protective mechanisms to evolve. Neptune invites the clenched fist to open – the clutch of the hoarder to release nonessentials. Neptune invites us to release overprotectiveness, opening to greater possibilities for connection, intimacy and yes, magic!
