Pluto in Aquarius Part III: Charting the Transit
Pluto in Aquarius Part I forecasts into the upcoming 21 year transit beginning on March 23rd, 2023.
Pluto in Aquarius Part II returns to previous eras of Pluto in Aquarius to highlight additional themes we might expect to see re-emerge in the following decades.
As promised, Part III is here to highlight some high key moments of Pluto in Aquarius over the next 21 years. Here, we will look at a lot of charts!
Ingress Charts
An Ingress chart is cast for the moment a planet enters a new zodiac sign; the chart is cast for the country’s capital in question. As I’m a resident of the United States, charts are cast for Washington DC. The chart may tell us a bit about the flavor of the transit. As Pluto retrogrades back into Capricorn a couple of times, we have 3 Ingress charts to work with. Some astrologers prefer the original ingress chart while others prefer the final ingress chart.
Ingress #1 features Pluto in Aquarius in the 11th house - a place of social networks. As highlighted in Part I, we are already seeing a distinctive emphasis on social media tech giants. The Aries stellium in the first house highlights individual sovereignty, while Mars in the 3rd house points to media. The conversation about our data, and the threshold of automation will continue through the energy of this chart.
Ingress #2 spotlights an eye-catching Pluto cazimi in the 6th house of labor. As we’ve seen in previous Pluto in Aquarius eras, there seems to be a controversial dichotomy between the ways in which technology improves working conditions, as well as the fear that it will replace us. The MC in this chart stands out in its conjunction with the Medusa star, Algol: people will be losing their heads about these issues! The Moon’s square to Saturn also indicates public disappointment.
Ingress #3 places Pluto in the autocratic 10th house, opposite Mars in Leo in the 4th house. We will get our first preview of this aspect circa May 20th, 2023. It’s a provocative and volatile combination, instigating passion, outrage and eruptive action. ((Robot wars??? jk)). The ruler of this chart is Venus, who is placed in the 9th house of legislation. One of the biggest issues facing the new frontier of tech is the unchecked capabilities and lack of regulation. I suspect this will be a larger issue as the transit unfolds.
Notable Eclipses
Astrologer Bill Meridian teaches a technique passed down from his mentors Charles Jayne and Edward Johndro: For longer transits, the period(s) in which an eclipse most closely aspects them will be periods where that transit reaches a crescendo of influence on the world stage. The following 5 eclipse charts are the ones which most closely engage Pluto in Aquarius.
1) January 26th, 2028: Annular Solar Eclipse conjunct Pluto, 6°11’ Aquarius; north node eclipse: this is probably the most striking of the eclipse charts. You’ll notice that the eclipse also forms an exact trine to Uranus in Gemini. This means that the eclipse not only highlights the potency of Pluto in Aquarius, but also the Uranus-Pluto trine which will last from 2024-2028. While the Age of Aquarius is not even close (just check your ephemeris!), the age of AIR is officially here. Life is changing, and fast! What do we make of Saturn in Aries ruling the eclipse? It’s too soon to tell, but likely an insufficient code of ethics, regulations and leadership surrounding these technological issues.
2) November 3rd, 2032: Partial Solar Eclipse square Pluto, 11°21’ Scorpio; north node: the eclipse squares Pluto within 1°30’, which means that this aspect is very tight. The eclipse is ruled by a Mars in detriment in Libra, also potentially highlighting litigation, media and fairness over technological topics. Mars in the 3H might also suggest a theme related to transportation, mail or advertising. As the eclipses are in Scorpio, resources will absolutely be a theme.
3) February 11th, 2036: Total Lunar Eclipse opposite Pluto, 22°45’ Leo; north node: the eclipse is ruled by the Sun in detriment conjunct Pluto. Certainly we can expect prominent themes around leadership with this eclipse. This eclipse further highlights the Saturn-Pluto opposition of 2035-2036, which often deals with autocratic power-structures.
4) November 18th, 2040: Total Lunar Eclipse square Pluto; 27°03’ Taurus; north node: If you’re reading this article in 2023, this eclipse degree should sound familiar. Indeed, this eclipse is a repetition of the 19-year metonic cycle; we had an eclipse at this degree on 11/19/21. Conjunct Algol, it was a messy and powerful eclipse for a lot of folks. With this one in a hard square with Pluto, we can expect even more themes of unearthing. The Taurus-Scorpio axis highlights stability and resources. Another interesting layer of this chart is that Pluto forms a trine with a recently conjunct Jupiter-Saturn in Libra. This will be our next “Great Conjunction,” in air, which continues to highlight the Age of Air - movement, technology, education and the proliferation of ideas/ideologies.
5) May 15th, 2041: Partial Lunar Eclipse square Pluto; 25°32’; south node: This eclipse degree might also sound familiar to you if you are reading this in 2023! This is the metonic repetition of the 5/14/22 eclipse. This eclipse chart is probably the weakest out of all of the ones I’ve shared above, but it’s still noteable as we are now nearing the end of Pluto’s journey through the fixed air sign. The eclipse is ruled by a domiciled Mars in the 5th house of leisure, while the fallen Moon is also eclipsed. While we might again expect shortages of life’s essentials, a quality of technological leisure seems to persevere.
Important Configurations:
Uranus in Gemini trine Pluto in Aquarius (2024-2028)
Shown below is the first eclipse chart referenced above, as that eclipse period will most strongly enhance this air trine. This configuration likely represents a period of rapid technological advancements which could influence a vast terrain of life areas: recreation, travel, medicine, optics, education, communication, virtual reality, hologram technology, aerospace and AI. The thing with air is that it tends to move FAST, create a stir and continue circulating. I suspect this to be a highly exciting and experimental period, which could ultimately lead to more evergreen standby’s in time.
Jupiter conjunct Pluto in Aquarius: 2033
As we saw in 2020’s conjunction in Capricorn, the Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions tend to emphasize wealth and grandiose proportions. Cue new tech giants, the wealth and influence of these tech companies. We can also expect groundbreaking technological advancements which pave the way for a more acute ability to perceive on a micro or macro level - think subatomic cellular level and exploring the far reaches of space. New possibilities are born of this period.
Saturn opposite Pluto: 2035 - 2036
The Saturn-Pluto cycle highlights authoritarianism, the promotion of fear to funnel control and extreme reaches for power. The world tends to take on a more austere and constricting tone during these hard aspects, as we confront perceived threats and deal with major issues. This Saturn-Pluto opposition is unique because here, Saturn is in detriment in Leo, which suggests themes of inadequacy in leadership - either we are stuck with leaders who are not cut out for the task, leaders who may fail or disappoint, or peacocking leaders who don’t know how to embody true leadership. With Pluto in hive-mind Aquarius, we may see situations where the figurative crown topples while another group grabs the reigns to do what’s perceived as necessary. I would expect radical attempts to overthrow authoritarian or inadequate regimes. The Saturn-Pluto opposition period represents a time of shifting and redefining power structures.
Venus Retrograde in Leo opposite Pluto in Aquarius: August 2031 + July 2039
While we also have a Venus retrograde in Leo in 2023, it does not oppose Pluto, who retrogrades back into Capricorn by then. As Venus repeats her retrograde cycle in the same sign every 8 years, we will have to wait to see this configuration at play. On the world stage, Venus-Pluto connections deal with the subversive side of finances, the privileged influence of cash, and the revelation of secret financial affairs. On a personal level, these Venus-Pluto retrograde stories can be deeply confronting yet transformative in terms of intimacy, authenticity and gaining the courage to ask the hard questions in our relationships. Venus-Pluto is a deeply ride-or-die kind of vibe which wants to know: are you as real as I hope you are. And am I? Think about the uprooting and deepening Venus retrograde of December 2021-January 2022 in Capricorn which began in a conjunction with Pluto. Of course, these two Venus-retrogrades will take on their own Leonine flavor of passion, expression, display of affection, and soul-level acknowledgement. If you’ll notice, both of these charts emphasize Venus -stationing- in opposition with Pluto. 2031 offers a stationary direct Venus, while 2039 shows a stationary retrograde. In both cases, Venus will hold an opposition with Pluto for about 5 weeks. Talk about intensity!
Mars Retrograde in Aspect with Pluto:
As early as 2024, Mars stations retrograde in Leo, opposite Pluto in Aquarius. Looking ahead to 2037, Mars repeatedly squares off with Pluto as it retrogrades through Taurus. Mars-Pluto, as we know tends to highlight more unpleasant themes on the world stage of violence, accidents, natural disaster (often quickened by human environmental taxation) and revolt. In these cases, the combustible potency of this configuration is unfortunately prolonged. On a personal level, this planetary combination has a higher potential of serving us - showing us how we can embody our personal power on a more potent level, giving us an extra push of motivation or the adrenaline to move a mountain of some kind in our lives.
This concludes my list of stand-out Pluto in Aquarius transits over the next 21 years. It’s quite a task to forecast that far into the future, as we don’t know what the world will look like by then (especially in a rapidly evolving air period)! My best advice is to not fear what these transits might mean for us personally or collectively, but rather, remain optimistically curious about how these energies might show up!
