There’s been a lot of hype about the year 2020 among astrologers, and the hype is well-founded. In fact, the year wastes no time showboating what it’s got in store for us. Already, Twitter is gaping at the devastating fires in Australia, and fears of WWIII abound as a drone strike in Iran spurs on political tension between the US and the Middle East. And yet, none of this is new news. Last year, Amazonia burned and we’ve been at it with Iran since 1982.
Astrology is the study of cycles. 1982 is when the last Saturn/Pluto cycle began, and this cycle officially comes to a close on January 12th, 2020, and another cycle simultaneously begins. The Saturn/Pluto cycle is well-known to coincide with global tensions and hostility between nations around power, domination, defense, weaponry, war, violence and another big one is borders. Fear is the tool used to drive the masses into cautious conserativism. This past cycle has dealt largely with threats and acts of terrorism, while the cycle between 1913 and 1948 encapsulated two world wars.
News reports that US troops have been ordered leave from Iran and Iraq. Most Americans will agree, it’s about damn time. And the symbolism fits. The cycle ends… But what will come of the air strike? Who knows. A new cycle begins and we have yet to know what it will bring yet. But this week may deliver some clues.
The devastation in Australia brings up another major transit, Uranus in Taurus. Uranus spends about 8 years in each sign, so it’s often steering the collective evolution from the background. We notice these outer planets most when other planets aspect them or when they station retrograde or direct. On January 10th, 2020 Uranus stations direct in Taurus. Uranus is the alarm, and Taurus is pachamama - the Earth. We really need to wake up and make some radical changes in our priorities and our practices as a species. Uranus is the call for FREEDOM, and in the sign of Taurus, the Earth herself seeks liberation. It’s our responsibility to find ways to blend technology and sustainability to live in greater harmony with the Earth. Amazonia and Australia are symptoms of a much larger problem.
Also on January 10th, Eris, the molatav cocktail revolutionary also makes a statement as she stations direct in the sign of sovereignty, Aries. She’s been making a fuss since 2016 when she joined up with Uranus to demand individual freedom to oppressed individuals. Eris shows up when people have been peaceful for far too long. She demands representation for all, and at any cost. She’s not above violence at this point. Remaining quiet in the face of injustice only builds rage. Her highest manifestation is giving everyone a seat at the table and giving voice to issues that deserve a bigger platform.
January 10th is also… a Lunar Eclipse at 20 degrees of Cancer.
Yes, the cosmic course correctors are here to give us a wake-up call, both collectively and individually. With all the work we’ve been doing to end unsupported cycles, set boundaries and grow our lives into fuller alignment with our authenticity, “self-care” has been a trending buzz word. The Lunar Eclipse in Cancer helps us bring balance, and nourishment into our lives. The conversation around self-care is now implying that bubble baths and cocktails are not enough - what practices can we partake in that are truly nourishing to our soul?
And further, perhaps this toxic culture of work, work, work, needs to be dismantled? Perhaps that’s the real “self-care” we all deserve? All this Earth energy invites us to slow down, and quit exhausting ourselves. There is no rush. Perfection is something that arrives gradually and gracefully.
Nonetheless, eclipse season is always eventful on the world stage.
Last, but certainly not least, a (((HUGE RELEASE))) as Jupiter aligns with the south node from January 6th - 10th.
This aspect invites us to let go of beliefs that may have served us at one time or another, but have grown unsupportive. Jupiter takes its time crossing this cosmic flush valve. The nodes invite fated releases and alignments with our ever evolving soul’s path. The nodes are where destiny and our free will as creators collide to conspire with us. It’s a letting go to make more room for expansion both in the soul level and the physical plane. Where this big release occurs for you personally depends on where you have Capricorn in your chart— the area where Saturn and Pluto have been testing us, and challenging us to make major renovations. And yes, this week is big, but not to fear. It’s important work we are doing to feel more supported as we move forward, both personally and collectively.
With love,
